Week 7: Stanford Credibility Study

Hey guys!

So we are wrapping week 7 up and one of the things that was reviewed was the Stanford Credibility Study performed by the Stanford Persuasive Tech Lab. According to the SPTL's website their main purpose is to create insight into how computing products from websites to mobile phone software and also design will change peoples behavior. In the web credibility research the group tackled these questions. What causes people to believe or not believe whats on the web? What strategies do uses employ in evaluating the credibility of online sources? What design factors an individuals use? Lastly, how and why are credibility evaluation processes are different from face to face interaction?

Stanford Credibility Study
In this study they are performing quantitative research on web credibility. They will collect all public information on web credibility. The research fell under 4 broad areas: evaluation process, design, individual factors, and context/content. There were 10 guidelines that were for web credibility and personally what I look for when I have to reference a site. For instance, when sites are updated more often than others where trustworthy people are standing behind the site. Also if I see a site that has a bunch of spelling errors its going to make me not want to take it seriously. It just shows sloppiness. When the site looks professional and is easy for users to view and even contact you it makes it a lot more credible. Appearance is everything so always make your site with simplicity and overall great appearance.

Week 7: Job Hunting (WCIYP)

Hey guys!

So in this week we are reading chapter 6 What to Do When Your Job-Hunt Just Isn't Working. In this chapter we discuss different ways how to job hunt and to never give up just work harder at a different strategy. In the beginning of this chapter it states there are two ways to hunt for a job. The first way is the traditional way which requires you to create a resume and post it and send it out. If sending out the first bunch of resumes doesn't work then send out a bunch more. Post it everywhere and wait until you get a response. Then look at ads and companies and send out your resume to them. If this works for you then you are done. If not then you should try the second way which is the Parachute way and focuses on yourself rather than focusing on the job market. This is said to be the harder way but you figure out who you are as a person and what you most love to do. You don't wait until a position opens up you go at it on your own.

The difference between the job ways are completely difference but 3 main differences might persuade you into the parachute way at the end. In the traditional way you ask yourself, what are you looking for? The answer you will get is a job. You are simply there just for a job rather than the parachute way which is "your" dream job. The parachute way uses your favorite skills and favorite fields of knowledges. The second part is how do you see yourself? In the traditional way you see yourself as a "job-beggar" and you will be lucky to get a job. In the parachute way you see yourself the opposite way and you feel like a "resource" and they will be lucky to have you is more of the attitude you have. The last difference is how you will prepare. In the traditional way you focus on what the job market has to offer and you want what is "in" and is the "hot jobs". You gear towards the jobs that are in the limelight even if you don't dream of doing it. In the parachute way you do your homework on yourself to figure out what you do best and most love to do. So basicially in the parachute way you want to focus on yourself and want to do a job that you are going to wake up everyday wanting to go to. The parachute way equals the right way and the way everyone should appoach when starting a new adventure.

Week 6: Facebook Ad Campaign

Hey guys so for my second blog for week 6 I am going to talk about my ad campaign that I just set up. So the assignment was to create a campaign around this marketing blog. It was a fairly easy process with this cheat sheet that my professor provided us with. All I really had to do was go to the advertising section on Facebook and promote my blog by the amount of clicks I get. Then I just entered my URL on the blog and then it redirected me to a new page on the information on my blog. I set my audience broad but this is my first time I have ever created an ad so for interest I put social media marketing and had an age group from 18-44. I selected both men and women to get more clicks and I selected India as another location as well as the United States. I am waiting on approval on my blog to make sure it meets ad standards.

As this ad goes for 5 days on a lifetime budget of $5 I will see how many people will be clicking on my page and how much social media has an effect on today.

So see you guys in week 7!

Week 6: Social Media Is Everywhere

Hey Everyone!

So in this week we read some articles on where the consumption of our time goes. As I can relate a lot to these article because I do too spend a great deal of time on social media especially on Facebook. I think to myself why is it so time consuming to be on these sites? Why is it the first 10 minutes of my day is checking my phone?

The first article that I read was Smartphone Users Use Facebook 14 times A Day, Study Says. The company went and surveyed apple and android users and more than 7,000 men and women between 18-44 spent 2-2 and 1/2 hours on their phones daily. Email being number one and Facebook tailing second. 70% of the group accessed Facebook from the phone and 44% use it as an alarm clock. In fact I always use my phone as an alarm clock and always access everything on my phone like email, Facebook, and other types of social media. As strange as it is our phones are essential to life. We rely on our phones to wake us up to get us to work on time, we use it to get directions when we are lost. We use them to call our loved ones and texts our friends when we are away from them. As much as you may want to say you don't use your phone all the time you might use it the most. Social media is everywhere and you can not escape it.

Now for the second article that I read was Infographic: How Often Should You Post On Social Media? See The Most Popular Research and Tips. Below is an image of when should you post to social media. The first image states you should post to Pinterest 5 times a day. It also says the top brands experience rapid growth when you take the time to post multiple times a day. The next type of media talked about is Twitter and you shouldn't post more than 3 times a day because you start to loose engagement after the 3rd tweet. Next is Google, no less than 3 posts a day because its been recorded that 50% of traffic is lost when you post less than usual. Lastly, Facebook users should post twice a day. You likes and comments start to drop off throughout the day so send your last one later on in the day. The article also talks about other types of social medias but these are the top sites.

The articles were really interesting and were good to reference when knowing how many times to post and the most used types of sites phone users use. Just try to remember a time you weren't on your phone or next to it...

Week 5: Facebook Ads

Hey guys! In this post I want to go over Facebook Ads. You might be asking what are Facebook ads? There ads that either appear on the right side of your page when you log in or in your news feed its called suggested post. The most common uses for ads are promoting Facebook pages. Your goal is get people to go on your page and "like" it. When creating an ad you need to log into Facebook or go to this link www.facebook.com/advertising. The one that I am interested in is clicks to Facebook because the main concept is how many people are going to click on your page. Clicks to Facebook is going to be how you want to receive your results.

Then you want to select a website to promote and it can be your blog post or anything that you want users to see. Then it will go to an audience you are trying to reach. When you are making choices on the left side then it will update the audience definition in real time. Then you will head on to language and the interest sections and this is whatever you want it to be.Now it will lead to the account and campaign section. Then whats really important that you should select would be set a start and end date then you will need to select a budget that doesn't need to be much. Now after going through your bidding options you can select up to 6 different images at no cost at all. After all that you will head to a headline and text portion then you can place order. After all of that is done you are able monitor your results. This part is the best now you can review your results. Its all about monitor how many clicks and likes you get. I hope this was helpful and see you next time in week 6!

Week 5: 16 Tips For A Job Interview

Hey Everyone, So we are flying by in the chapters and were off to chapter 4! Interviews are pretty nerve wrecking and we either shine in them or completely sink. This chapter however is a great way to prepare yourself for an interview. There are 16 tips the author provides you with for an interview. The names of tips I took and reworded in an easier manner to read. So lets get started.
1. There are no such things as employers.

2. PREPARE before you enter the interview! Know what you are talking about.

3. Honor Agreements. Pretty much let them know how much of their time your using and be precise and instead of saying you need 20 minuets of their time say 19 minuets. You are really serious and know their time is precious as well as yours.

4. An interview is like a date. So what do you do on a date but collect information. If the person has what you are looking for then you continue to see them. So in a interview they are collecting information about you vise versa and seeing what they have to offer.

5. Questions to expect from them, then questions you can ask.

6. The 50/50 rule. Don't hog the conversation. Its about sharing, you share ideas as well as the other person. Simple enough?

7. The 20 second or 2 minute rule. When an employer asks you a question get to the point but don't give them less than what they want to hear.

8. Risk! Employers do not want to hire you and then find out that you didn't work out. So you need reassure them that you are not going anywhere.

9. It's the small things that count. You do not want to scare an employer. Its all about the way you present yourself!

10. Claim your skills. You need to be on the ball and you need to posses the skills that they are looking for.

11. Bring evidence of your skills. So if you are a artist seeking to be an illustrator or a make up artist bring one of your samples and impress.

12. No BAD MOUTHING! Do not talk bad about your previous employer. You need to represent yourself in a respectable way.

13. The past is the past. Employers only want to know your past to predict how you will be in the future. Its more of insurance to them.

14. Tenses count. Know your past and present tenses. Where did you go to high school? Tell me about your current job. Notice how one is in past and one is in present tense.

15. Remember the 5 questions as you are wrapping up the interview. ( Can you offer me this job?, When may I expect to hear from you?, When is the latest I would hear from you?, Can I contact you if I don't hear from you?, Only if the first question is no then you can ask if there is anyone looking for someone with your skills.) LASTLY!

16. Send a thank you note to the employer and most people always forget to do this.

Its a lot to gather but these tip will you go forward in life and with being an expert in job interviewing. If you master these tips then an employers will start noticing you.

Week 4: Creating a Facebook Page

Hey everyone! So were back again but I want to discuss how to create a Facebook page. One of the main reasons people create Facebook pages out of all the social media options they have is because it is simple. Making something simple to operate to the public will get you your users. Facebook is another way of connecting with your friends and family or people you want to meet. You can create your own type of page like a business page, personal page, or a group page. There are many options for you as a user to choose from. STEP 1: Head on to the site, www.facebook.com STEP 2: Click to choose a page category Step 3: Select a more specific category from the dropdown menu and fill out the required information. Step 4: Click GET STARTED and follow the on-screen instructions.

It's 4 easy steps towards creating something you can make your own and share with your friends and family. Facebook is the most common and used site and any age can use it. Everyone uses Facebook to share what happened to them in the week, exciting news, not so exciting news, and what they are proud of. You can post what you like its your page just be aware to always keep it something you would even want your boss or grandmother to see. Catch you guys later in week 5!

Week 4: Do You Like Me And Do I Like You? (WCIYP)

Hey Everyone! We are off to Chapter 3 this time in What Color Is Your Parachute and we discover that the employer isn't always the only one in power. You have more power than you think you do. What I found interesting in this chapter was this do you like me and do I like you concept. The first part is do you want me to work for you and you have a job to do that I am fully capable of doing. The second part is do I like you. This is the most important question and the question that you really have no right to ask but you need to consider. You have to like what you do in life because being in a job that you hate is going to make going to work everyday difficult.

When it comes to the amount of power you posses its not as little as you think. The job hunt is out there you just need to put the effort to find it. There are some things that will get in the way and we have no control over but we can't just say no one is hiring when everything is not going your way. You just need to not give up and keep trying because someone will eventually respond to our request. Just make sure its what you really want to do and your happy about it :).
