I've just got done with chapter one in What Color is Your Parachute? and I find it really informative. Yes it goes into a little bit about our 2008 recession issues but its all true. It is getting so hard finding a job in the "real world" after you get done with school. It goes into some stats on the percentage of people who have success on finding a job and the ones who can't find one. It seems like the harder we search and put more time into does not pay off in this time period. I am looking for stability, reliability, and flexibility when it goes to a future job but looking for something full time like that will be a slim chance I feel. Majority of workers now are having to settle with temporary work or part time work. This is a problem for me at least and I know others will be able to relate. I want one job with benefits like everyone else. More and more people are having to get more than one job because the economy has been in rough shape.
After reading the first chapter I have gathered a lot of interview techniques that will help me along the way. A couple of things that have stood out to me in this chapter is when the interview is done you should ask the employer from the discussion you two previously had if you were right for the job. They swear this can land you the job or get you closer to it. Also to send out a thank you letter to your employer. Nothing lengthy but something that thanks them for their time. Not many people are going to be doing something like this and why not make yourself stand out.
I really enjoyed this chapter a lot and I am looking forward to all the advice and information I can gather when I get closer to getting my degree!
