Week 3: What Color is Your Parachute? Google Is Your New Resume

Hey guys! So in chapter 2 in WCIYP it discusses how everything you share on the internet might not be shared just between you and your family but could be viewed by anyone. You don't want a future employer really knowing what you did last Friday night or how you went partying the night before and were too exhausted to get up the next morning and ditched an event. I bring up these examples because with the growth of technology anyone can read what you post even if you are trying to hide it. Resumes are still used today but its not the only thing that can affect whether you get the job or not. Employees could simply go to their search engine and type in your name and BAMMM there you are.

You always want to make sure that you post things that you want even your mother to see. Although that sounds crazy and you may think that your chances are over with finding a job don't worry. Before you look for a future job you can always delete and get rid of content that isn't the best for an employer to know. You always want to make sure that with sites like Linkedin that you provide all your information and key words that all an employer has to do is key in that word and your name pops up. This is a good way of landing an interview.

Overall, anything you post everyone can see if you allow others to see. You can always set settings or get rid of content that doesn't benefit you. Just a reminder there is still time to change.

Week 3: LinkedIn

I've finally made a LinkedIn account for the first time and it does seem like it could help me in the future. When you set up your account it will sort of feel like your setting up a Facebook account. One thing that I liked about LinkedIn though versus Facebook is that I can add my skills and it gives you feedback and will tell you that adding more skills or a profile picture will make your profile more employable. Facebook and LinkedIn are both social media accounts that connect you with others but LinkedIn I feel is the one that you need to make sure you want everyone to see. Everyone does it but we might post things on our Facebook accounts that you don't want everyone to see but its you and you need to be able to express yourself. Honestly though you don't want your boss seeing everything that you post. You have to be as professional as you would be if your talking to employer. I plan to utilize LinkedIn and improve my profile with adding more information that will make my profile stand out. The best thing about LinkedIn is that its simple to use and what we all want is a little simplicity in our lives.

Week 2: WCIYP

I've just got done with chapter one in What Color is Your Parachute? and I find it really informative. Yes it goes into a little bit about our 2008 recession issues but its all true. It is getting so hard finding a job in the "real world" after you get done with school. It goes into some stats on the percentage of people who have success on finding a job and the ones who can't find one. It seems like the harder we search and put more time into does not pay off in this time period. I am looking for stability, reliability, and flexibility when it goes to a future job but looking for something full time like that will be a slim chance I feel. Majority of workers now are having to settle with temporary work or part time work. This is a problem for me at least and I know others will be able to relate. I want one job with benefits like everyone else. More and more people are having to get more than one job because the economy has been in rough shape.

After reading the first chapter I have gathered a lot of interview techniques that will help me along the way. A couple of things that have stood out to me in this chapter is when the interview is done you should ask the employer from the discussion you two previously had if you were right for the job. They swear this can land you the job or get you closer to it. Also to send out a thank you letter to your employer. Nothing lengthy but something that thanks them for their time. Not many people are going to be doing something like this and why not make yourself stand out.
I really enjoyed this chapter a lot and I am looking forward to all the advice and information I can gather when I get closer to getting my degree!

WEEK 2: Word of Mouth through Social Media

In intro to Social Media Marketing, the one section that stuck out to me the most in chapter one was word of mouth. Apple was their topic that they talked about and Apple does marketing their products but they are all about making their products amazing in the first place. It seems to me that Apple is all about making their products bigger and better each year. Their whole talk and advertising on the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 plus for example. The race between Androids and Apple has been the thing now-a-days. The two companies have made cell phones bigger and better and have simplified for their users.

Apple has made a name for themselves and the fact that their products speak for themselves beat the battle of putting lots of social media into the air. I have been a apple user when it comes to my phone or computer for a while. The reason I lean more towards Apple is the fact that I know that they make the best and you know each year they are going to top what they did the year before.
